At Casting Frontier, we’re proud to empower actors everywhere to develop their careers by applying for auditions and casting calls through our casting portal.
Although auditioning for as many acting jobs as possible is critical for moving your acting career forward, you’ll eventually need to get an acting agent to reach new heights. However, when it comes to getting an agent, many actors aren’t sure where to start.

Here are a few helpful tips on how to find an agent and grow your career.

Know When You’re Ready

Getting an agent is NOT the first step in an acting career. Before you think about getting an agent, you need to do the legwork. That means training, taking acting classes and building up your resume and experience with plenty of roles and acting jobs. Once you’ve proven that you’re able to book work on your own for a while, you can then start looking for an acting agent.

Do Your Research

Once you are at the point in your career where you’re ready for an agent, it’s important to do your research so you’re ready when the time comes. Talk to your actor friends, teachers and the rest of your network about potential options for an agent or agency, and use the Internet to find local SAG-AFTRA agents. You should understand which agents and agencies are right for the type of acting you do so that you’re making connections with the right people.

Prepare Your Marketing Materials and Portfolio

Agencies will want specific items when submitting to them. This includes headshots, your acting resume, a cover letter and sometimes your acting or voiceover demo reel. Some agents will want more items than others, but be sure to have them handy before you start submitting.

Follow the Submission Guidelines or Get a Referral

When you’ve decided on the right agent or agency, it’s time to submit for representation. Agencies will normally have their submission requirements on their website. When submitting to an agent, be sure to follow those guidelines. If you can get a referral from a casting director or another actor that’s represented by the same agency, that’s even better.

Turn on your Agent Finder in Casting Frontier

Did you know that Casting Frontier has a tool specifically for helping actors and agents connect? Performers can activate the Agent Finder on their profile’s Representation page. Once saved, talent representatives using the Talent Finder tool can contact you if they think you’ll be a great fit for their roster.

These tips can help you prepare for, find and submit to acting agents and agencies. That being said, the most important thing you can do to increase your chances of getting an acting agent is to continue building your career on your own. Casting Frontier’s auditions portal gives you direct access to lots of casting calls and auditions, making it easy to find your next acting role and move your career forward.
