Will Your Next Audition Tape Go Up for Auction in Years to Come?

You know that audition you just did; you know, the one the producers just passed on hiring you? Well, one day that audition tape featuring you might be up on the auction blocks selling for big money.

Once upon a time all the mega stars we watch on the silver screen were unknown, aspiring actors, and going on auditions just like you. They had to find a way to take off work, they had to fight their way across town, only to be rejected time and again in the notoriously ruthless competition of the entertainment industry.

Brad Pitt, Helen Hunt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, and Robert Downey Junior are among the mega stars whose before-they-were-celebrities audition tapes went up for auction thanks to three anonymous casting directors who were sitting on the tapes for years.

Before Brad Pitt’s attention-grabbing supporting role of J.D. in the road film Thelma & Louise which defined Pitt as a sex symbol, Pitt was auditioning for Director Ron Howard hoping to be cast in the movie Backdraft. Howard passed on what could be described as Brad’s not-so-impressive audition performance, opting instead to give the part to William Baldwin.

The 1993 film Jurassic Park beckoned in a number of high-profile actresses in the casting process for the role of paleobotanist, Dr. Ellie Sattler. One of the actresses, however, was not well known. Her name was Gwyneth Paltrow, and she did not land the role; rather it went to Laura Dern.

In 1990 a boy named Leonardo DiCaprio tried out for the role of Ponyboy Curtis in The Outsiders TV series. He received a small part in the pilot, but Jay R. Ferguson landed the role. Still, as we all know, Leo was afforded many more opportunities to shine after he went head to head with Robert De Niro in the coming-of-age drama This Boy’s Life in 1993.

It’s refreshing to see unrefined footage of A-list actors before their mega fame kicked in. It serves as a reminder that we are all works in progress, and there is always room to grow, and more opportunities to blow people away as you adapt and master the craft of acting.


Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Recipes to Look and Feel Great

Gwyneth-paltorw-cookbook.jpgForty-year-old Academy-Award winning actress, Gwyneth Paltrow’s youthful appearance has been a source of awe among her fans for years now. An icon of style and trends, she shares many good-living tips via her blog, goop.com. While Paltrow has been praised for the kind of good taste touted on her site, she’s likewise been ridiculed for being particularly out-of-touch with reality; for example, her recent must-have list topped out at $450,000. Well, she has recently branched out with a batch of fresh recipes in a new cookbook titled It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great. Paltrow has always been passionate about cooking, which she attributes to the influence her father, Bruce Paltrow, and has authored other cookbooks including My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness, and Notes from My Kitchen Table. What makes this latest cookbook different from the others? This one includes go-to, easy-to-make foods she personally eats when wanting to lose weight, look her best, and feel more energetic.

After a particularly grueling schedule last spring during which she overindulged on items such as French fries and wine to the point of feeling fatigued, faint, and even suffered a migraine that she feared might be a stroke, she visited a doctor. Tests revealed she was anemic, vitamin D deficient, and her stress levels were high, so the doctor prescribed an elimination diet to help her body get back on track. That meant, in Paltrow’s own words, “no coffee, no alcohol, no dairy, no eggs, no sugar, no shellfish, no deepwater fish, no potatoes, no tomatoes, no bell pepper, no eggplant, no corn, no wheat, no meat, no soy, nothing processed at all.”

Concerned her meals would be boring, she got together with Julia Turshen, and compiled a collection of recipes that followed her doctor’s guidelines. The goal was to create recipes that were both delicious and easy to make. After committing to her new diet, Gwyneth noticed she indeed felt more energetic and was looking great (not too hard to imagine!). Wanting to share her health and beauty secrets with fans, Gwyneth released the cookbook to include the recipes she herself eats especially when she needs to restore her health.

Reviews for the book are mostly positive with many applauding Paltrow for encouraging healthy proteins, veggies, and sharing tips to maintain a light and healthy weight. On the other hand, quite a few reviewers have criticized her for having the nerve to feature recipes like “Hard-boiled egg” and “Popcorn.” Some reviewers have been puzzled as to why she includes recipes containing soy and eggs, for example, when the premise of her book is to abstain from such food items. And adding fuel to the fire is the fact that roughly 25% of the photos contained in the cookbook are of Gwyneth herself.

Jennifer Aniston plays a super-fit stripper in the new movie We’re the Millers, and, although she doesn’t take everything off in her risque role, she does show a lot of skin. Being that Aniston is currently 44 years old, her super-toned physique is remarkable if not mind-boggling. So what is her secret to staying in such exceptional shape? She credits her friend and yoga instructor, Mandy Inger, as well as doubling her usual yoga hours. “You get up into my age and you’ve gotta do a little bit more,”  Anniston admits.

So what is it about Mandy Inger’s approach to yoga that makes it so effective? It begins with the belief that “You already have a perfect body!” Encouraging people to challenge any self-critical and self-judging thoughts about their bodies is where Inger wants her clients to begin. “…Love your body just the way it is. Remember, even if nothing changes, you are perfect just the way you are, and fitness and wellness is a celebration of your greatest gift. Celebrate your body!” Ingber says. This seems to be particularly prudent advice for aspiring actors who face such intense scrutiny on a daily basis.

Kate Hudson manages to maintain her svelte figure even though she’s now a mom with precious little time to pour into an exercise program. She emphasizes first off, “You’ve got to work at it… You gotta find ways to do it.” Hudson gets creative with her approach by kickboxing, sprinting, and squatting–all with her young son, Ryder, on her back! Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson, Jimmy Fallon, Robert Downey Jr., Halle Berry, Megan Fox, and Katherine Heigl are among the long list of celebrity names that have worked out with Harley Pasternak.
