Maisie Williams Is Launching an App for Talent Collaboration

March 27, 2018

Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams will soon be launching a new mobile app alongside movie producer Dom Santry. The app is called Daisie (D for Dom + Maisie – the M) and it serves as a career-focused social-networking platform for those aspiring to work in film, fashion, music, photography, and art.

Daisie is about artist collaboration. That is, it seeks to empower new talents by helping them present what they have to offer creatively, connect with other mutually beneficial talents, work on projects together, and grow their online portfolios–as well as their careers.

In a statement about the app, Williams said, “I want Daisie to give other creatives the opportunities that I was lucky enough to receive at the beginning of my career. Daisie will break down the archaic gap between youth and creative jobs; offering new opportunities for individuals to collaborate, learn, and create–establishing a new way for talented individuals to be discovered and employed.”

Santry added, “Social media can be a very lonely place and somewhere that doesn’t necessarily inspire collaboration or foster meaningful connections. It’s very easy for creative voices to get lost in platforms riddled with ads and unimportant content; we’re hoping to eradicate these, providing a focused, industry-specific platform.”

In this YouTube clip, Williams speaks about the app in practical terms, saying, “You can search in your area for other creative people. So say if you want to make a short film–you’re a writer–and you need someone who’s going to direct and shoot a short film, then you can go on [Daisie] and find in your area people who are looking for the same sort of work. You can fill out your own portfolio online as well as create a contact of these people who are ultimately trying to do the same kind of thing you’re trying to do.” Once a person has worked with another individual on the app, then a connection, or chain, is created on both of their portfolios.

Williams points out that Daisie will likewise empower young women to be more proactive in their own careers and less dependent on others who might attempt to take advantage of them as they try to start their careers. And it empowers all talents to essentially take their creativity and use it to prove that they’re serious about a career in the arts.

Currently, a talent roster of individuals who will be participating in Daisie right at the launch time is being assembled. About six months after the startup, Maisie and Dom plan to incorporate Daisie with their currently existing production company,  Daisy Chain Productions, which was set up along with actor Bill Milner in order to focus on youth and the talent development in the UK. The two platforms will come together to create content by selecting the most outstanding talents on Daisie.

Daisie is still being developed, and they hope it will launch in the App Store and online this coming August. Interested talents are invited to sign up for email alerts about the launch on the Daisie website.
