SAG-AFTRA has signed a “historic” deal with the new streaming service ZEUS founded by TV producer Lemuel Plummer and co-founded by social media stars King Bach, Amanda Cerny, and DeStorm Power. Subscriptions to ZEUS offer ad-free, video-on-demand streaming that features exclusive and original content created by and starring a variety of social media personalities. Whether scripted or unscripted, ZEUS will feature digital storytelling platforms including drama, comedy, talk, dance, and fitness programs.

SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris said: “We are thrilled to partner with the extraordinary members of ZEUS in providing union coverage for their original and innovative platform. King Bach, DeStorm Power, and Amanda Cerny are amazing content creators whose fresh, exciting voices are breaking new ground in the industry. Together we are taking the next, natural step into the future of entertainment production and distribution.”

The pact was announced recently at Social Media Week Los Angeles, and it provides coverage for content produced by ZEUS and serves as a pathway to SAG-AFTRA membership for ZEUS content creators. SAG-AFTRA described the agreement as “historic” as it represents a significant expansion of coverage. Currently, SAG-AFTRA represents approximately 160,000 performers.

Cerny is a social media influencer with millions of followers across Vine, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. She’s also a YouTube star on her Amanda Cerny Vlogs channel. Altogether, Cerny has written, produced, and directed over 3,000 comedic skit and music videos. She said, “SAG-AFTRA is committed to protecting the rights of artists as they gravitate to more progressive platforms, and we are thrilled to work with them.”

SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director David White stated, “We are very excited to have negotiated this agreement with ZEUS. ZEUS’ business model lives at the intersection of entertainment, technology, and storytelling, and it is essential that we set a precedent to protect our members in this space.”

Plummer stated, “This partnership with SAG-AFTRA will establish ZEUS as a major player in the industry as we launch our network.” Plummer is the executive producer of several TV series including Preachers of L.A., Preachers of Detroit, Preachers of Atlanta, and Oxygen’s comedy series Living with Funny. His dark comedy TV series Sober Coach will premiere on July 4th.

He’s an award-winning actor and writer whose known for his popular Caught series.

Comedian King Bach, also known as Andrew Bachelor, has garnered over 45 million fans–first, by creating and producing comedy sketches for his Bachelors Pad TV  YouTube channel and then by his content surging in popularity on Vine with 15 million subscribers and over 5 billion views. With this kind of influence, King Bach continues to branch out as an actor, producer, and content creator. He stars in Lionsgate’s comedy feature film Where’s the Money to be released in theaters in October. King Bach said, “ZEUS is a game changer for the digital space. We can’t wait to unveil ZEUS to our fans.”

ZEUS’ launch date is set for July 13 and comes with a monthly price tag of $3.99, available on both desktop computers and mobile devices. The mobile and connected TV apps can be purchased on the Apple App Store, Amazon App Store, and Google Play Store.

David White acknowledged that the streaming service is ready to adapt as needed. “We see ourselves as a platform for not only protecting people but also nurturing this type of programming. So, we’re extremely flexible, and we actually want to be a space where we are growing with them, learning about this, and making sure that other people who get into the space have a place to come where they are protected.”
